The Mauser 98k was the primary rifle of the Wermacht. It was used in every theater of war that Germany participated in in WWII. It had the mauser model 98 style action which is considered the best bolt action design ever made. Nearly every bolt action rifle made today is based on that design. In WWII it was used mainly by Germany and some of its allies. They shoot the 8mm Mauser bullet which is pretty much the same as the 30-06. The rifle pictured above is actually a WWI mauser that was reconfigured into a k98. I own one of these rifles that I bought for cheap because it was sporterized and I restored it to original condition. These are very cool rifles and they are very accurate and reliable. It is also my favorite of all the guns that I own.
This is a good site for more info about the mauser 98: http://www.surplusrifle.com/mauser98k/index.asp
